Athletes use coaches to help them become the best athletics they can be. They encourage you, believe in you, hold you accountable to help you reach your goals. Give you action steps to get you to move in the direction you want to go and give you tools to become the best at what you do.
What is a A Life Coach?
A Life Coach is very similar to a athletic coach only its not focused solely on the physical goals its about helping you live a life true to yourself on every level of your life whether its physical, emotional or business goals my job as a Life Coach is to help you achieve the life you want. I call the process “Becoming a Detective in Your Own Life”. Once I help you understand whats blocking you from having the life you want then I will give you action steps towards achieving your goals and creating a fabulous life.
What is Consciousness Coach and why do I need to have consciousness in my life?
Consciousness is the ability to become aware of yourself. Difficult to do but not impossible to achieve. It takes time, encouragement and patience to cultivate but it is possible to become a conscious observer of yourself. We are all aware of others behaviour but seldom our own because its very difficult to watch yourself in action. How the outside world perceives us and how we think we act to the outside world and who we think we are is often not the same.
Being aware of how you act is becoming Conscious. My passion is to help you see when and where and why you have moments of unconsciousness in your life and how this is keeping you from the life you want. Without consciousness in your life its very confusing and difficult to understand why you haven’t reached the life you want, why your relationships aren’t working, why you don’t have the job you want, etc. Once you have this level of awareness you will start to see how you can now achieve the life you dreamed of having. Many never go on this journey and its not for the faint of heart, it requires a trust and faith in yourself that we in our western society have not yet been taught to cultivate and its waiting to be discovered in you for you.
You are the very thing you have been waiting for, its time to unlock it.
I have you build an awareness muscle in your consciousness so that you can make conscious choices in your “choices” to achieve what you want in life.
“The body knows the truth; you can’t fool it. Unfortunately, the mind thinks you can and tries, but what happens is health issues arise when you listen more to the mind than the body which is communicating your truth to you through its pain in the body.”
In short A Consciousness Coach is a person who can see/read your unconscious thoughts and actions and reflect them back to you so that you can see also. Once that happens consciousness has been brought in and then from that place you can now make a “conscious” choice. Then I go on to teach you how to do this for yourself on a regular basis.
This is nearly impossible to achieve without a direct experience or someone who has been before you to coach you through the steps and encourage you to keep going. If this intrigues you please book an appointment and see if I can help you unlock your magnifisense.

Life Coach practicing at the Salt Spring Island Wellness Centre
Most people who receive acupuncture are either seen in private practice as outpatients, in physical therapy settings, or as part of spa treatments intended on increasing beauty and vitality. As a result this ancient form of medicine has become either too expensive or too exotic for the average person to even consider as a viable option for improving their health. The effectiveness of treatment increases with regular sessions and as a result traditionally cost becomes an issue. To honour our role of a wellness provider, we have adopted the community acupuncture model to service our local population.
The effects of Acupuncture are manifold; cumulatively, it improves circulation and vitality, it is drug-free (except for your body’s homemade endorphins), non-invasive, and has few side effects. Depending on the condition, it may take anywhere from 4 to 12 sessions to make lasting changes in a patient’s physiology. For many people, the cost of treatment interferes with their progress, so treatments become irregular and sparse, or discontinued once major issues are dealt with sufficiently, without addressing the root of the problem. This is unfortunate, because acupuncture works much like regular exercise and proper nutrition: in a cumulative, slow-&-steady, lasting way. Anyone in any state of health can benefit from getting regular acupuncture treatments. But the reality of modern healthcare is that many who need care are not able to access it sufficiently. Our response to this crisis is community acupuncture.
In a community acupuncture setting patients receive treatment on reclining chairs sharing a comfortable, clean, and calm environment with other patients. Because acupuncture meridians run all along the body from the extremities to the core and back again to connect all the various organ systems and substances, the points on the arms and legs can be used to access all corners of the body. Along with the hundred or so points on the head, face, and ears, anyone in shorts or loose-fitting pants and a t-shirt is perfectly dressed to receive a complete acupuncture treatment, regardless of their health concerns!
Community acupuncture clinics typically operate on a sliding-scale payment model. This flexible pay scale allows a larger proportion of patients access to healthcare and continuity to their course of treatment. Community acupuncture, sometimes referred to as working-class acupuncture, values providing healthcare to as many members of the community as possible.
Talking about what ails us is a crucial part of the healing process. By removing the stigma and isolation that sometimes accompanies illness, we can benefit from the support of our community to bring about a shared, common wellness. Recognizing that in this shared space, each individual benefits from the group’s efforts at being well is precisely what brings people together in a community, amplifying the intent and energy of those participating. Numerous studies outlining the general and significant benefits of community involvement on mental and physical health prove that we are our best when we feel like we belong. A community acupuncture clinic acts as a physical space that embodies this humble and basic principal of human health. On behalf of the Salt Spring Island Wellness Community, we welcome all to join us in making our homes and our hearts the healthiest they can be.
Integrated Health is now open at the Salt Spring Island Wellness Centre. This branch of our service offering includes a wide range of holistic treatments at an affordable cost in one central location. Check out the schedule here. We are now open from 9:00am until 4:30pm everyday with the exception of Sundays.
Our philosophy is a realization that when an individual falls into imbalance, this affects multiple systems. Holistic health adopts the premise that it takes attention to those multiple systems to bring them back into equilibrium. We are a team of highly skilled and passionate professionals that showcase some of the best healing modalities that Salt Spring has to offer. Together we teach based on experience and training both within traditional educational institutions and worldly knowledge passed down through spiritual/universal practice. Here at the Wellness Centre, all therapists are working together, offering our individual expertise in a collaborative environment to give you, the client the highest level of care.
Our clinic also includes a Community Acupuncture and Massage Clinic on a sliding scale to allow access to effective health care for all income levels. This model has had much success in other communities and we are excited to be able to offer this model here on Salt Spring Island.

Sincerest gratitude to all those who supported our Abundance Arising fundraiser. To all the Practitioners, Wellness Centre Members, and Moby’s regulars that came out to support us, and who donated their services, thank you for helping promote the Wellness Industry on Salt Spring Island. We raised $2500 or about half the cost of this initiative. We reached our goal and as a result our wellness industry will be represented on all the major routes of the B.C. Ferries. The racking card will link to our online directory and our event calendar, both of which are free to list on. Thank you for your help in getting Salt Spring Island recognized as a wellness destination!
Featured listings on the directory allow practitioners to highlight their business offerings for a low cost of $50/year. Registrants who are featured get the additional benefit of listing photo’s, unlimited categories and priority spacing on the website as well as racking space at the Salt Spring Island Wellness Centre.
The racking card, which features the phrase “Salt Spring Island; Your Wellness Destination” will be completed and on the Ferries this spring. The estimated launch date for Ferry representation is May 15th, 2015.
Thank you to all those who are involved in this initiative for making it happen.
Sincerely,
Greg Clayton and Tina Simpson

Before the Plenty Project
Permaculture came alive in urban Ganges this April. As the founder of the Wellness Centre, I’d like to take this opportunity to offer sincere gratitude some of my personal after thoughts where at the Salt Spring Island Wellness Centre, the launch of The Plenty Project captivated Hereford Ave. This open and inclusive community event was the platform to transform and create the landscape of the formerly vacant Sports Traders & Living Strong Programs building.
Our community used recycled and natural building materials, incorporated permaculture design principles, and regenerated one small piece of earth: The result is a beautiful, yet rustic, edible landscape. Fruit and nut trees (fig, apple, pear, lemon), medicinal herbs and annual vegetables now grow for all to enjoy. The landscape is now designed built to add organic biomass back into the landscape naturally.
If you walked or drove by , you likely slowed to take in the scene, the dancing and energy was unconventional for many – especially those not accustomed to Salt Spring. It was over 50 people, of all ages, working together like they would on their own farm or home, but this time bringing love and joy to a commercial landscape. People travelled from off island to come take-part in the event and music enticed those with shovels to dance. Food was served in the park where children were led in organized games. The joy was contagious.

We demonstrated another way of working and building together. We did it with less than a couple hundred dollars and we fostered resilience in our community; but most of all, we had fun!
What surprised me most was the support of the community, and also the fear, resistance and anger that it trigged in a very small part of the community.
There is always resistance in movement and some attempted to deflate our efforts. Angry because traffic slowed, music thumped and we danced in the street – and maybe more – but visits from the police and insults won’t divide strong community. And while some people don’t like don’t like what permaculture looks like on the front lawn. I personally don’t like the lawnmower cut lines on over-watered suburbia lawns – drying up precious water resources on this planet up with no utility. I believe in open honest dialogue between community members – a coming together – rather than calls to the “right and wrong” police.
I guess I should have expected that doing things unconventionally would bring up fear and resistance. We are demonstrating an alternative way of living, not because its right, but because people have forgotten that there is another way. We have lost connection with our past.
I will always be the first to admit that lessons can be taken from this, as in any new bold venture. I will not apologize for this event though. I’m fired up and in love with this place and what we are creating here. Fear cannot exist in love so I’m resolute.
This project was built for and supported by the community. It’s beautiful, its unique, and its so Salt Spring. Thank-you for building it!
Greg Clayton

Mark your calendars for April 17th-19th. Starting with a dance at Mahon Hall hosted by the Dance Temple Collective, the Plenty project kick off at 9am on Saturday morning. A weekend of community building, workshops, children’s activities, food, music, yoga, clothing swap and much more.
The launch of the Plenty Project will happen in the heart of Ganges at the Salt Spring Island Wellness Centre (Link to Fabebook Event). This building was mostly vacant and ignored for the last few years. Over the last year much has been created and invested in this hub for the Wellness Industry on Salt Spring Island. Now lets love the land that the building rests on.
The land in front of this building needs some organic Salt Spring community love and this launch is the first of what promises to be a full season of regenerative and celebratory community projects hosted at different farms around the island. This first event will showcase permaculture in an urban setting, inspiration in a context familiar to many of our visitors.

Workshops will be based around building raised bed gardens, planting fruit and nut trees in urban landscape, Integration of Hugelkultur beds,
A warm lunch will be served both days. We still need some ingrediants and a couple inspired chefs to help us prepare so check the Inventory/Exchange and see where you can help
There is no cost to this event and we have set the intention to not use currency except where needed to see the projects successful completion.
All the materials and plants for this project are coming from our farms and community as we look to regenerate from a place that utilizes what we already have. Please check out the Inventory/Exchange to see where you can help.

I’ve always been drawn to the farm life – tractors, tools, raising a family in a small community with local organic produce, always building & creating. It’s a tough way to make a living though – I guess that is how I ended up finishing university with many years of finance education and working commercial finance in the real-estate industry based in Calgary.
In 2014, following spine surgery, the birth of my first son Bodhi Xavier, and connecting with my partner Jaya Genevieve, I found the courage to make the leap.
I invested for the long-term in the Salt Spring community through two property purchases. Island Savings took a gamble and partnered/locked-me-in with a mortgage to purchase the court-ordered sale of a near vacant historic building in Ganges: The former United Church turned legion is now the Salt Spring Island Wellness Centre, located on Hereford Ave.
Second was the purchase of a former horse farm now known as Aloha ‘Aina (‘I-NA’) Farms. Here we are creating sustainable living by bringing together community through friendships and events, as well as growing our own food organically. We take back a bit of dependence from the urban system and maintain our independence and freedom in health.
I’ve always enjoyed being an active community member and look forward to becoming an integral part of this community. I’m currently on the Board of Directors for the Chamber of Commerce as well as chair the Conscious Wellness Sub-Committee. I’m sure this list will continue to grow as I plant myself in the community, equivalent to the 150 trees we are in the midst of planting at the farm.
What brought you to Salt Spring Island?
My path has been full of adventure and travel, from backpacking south Asia and Australia, setting up a remote office in Maui, to the bustle of downtown meetings in Calgary, Vancouver and Toronto with lenders and investor clients. I learned the fundamentals of business through my eight plus entrepreneurial ventures and projects, and an MBA and Commerce Degree. I maintain my office and work as an independent Broker focusing on institutional first mortgage debt. Understanding the complex world of finance is both valuable and terrifying as we see the immense control that these lending institutions have in shaping development and society.
It was my time going back and forth to Maui and spine surgery that shook my core and opened my eyes to experience something else. On Maui, I was at home and grounded with a collection of people living simpler, and with less fear. They come from all walks of life, but share the same abundance. Embodying a living “Aloha” – a word that Hawaiians have long used as a greeting in opening and closing of communication. Aloha is love, peace, compassion and mercy. The community of Salt Spring is, in my opinion, the closest you can find in Canada to North Shore of Maui.
What one thing about Salt Spring would you tell someone who has never visited the island?
We are not a secluded island with a handful of free-spirited hippies – there are way more of us than that! As well, my house is as close to the Victoria airport as Victoria is. I’d also say;”If you haven’t been to a SSI ‘farm’ party, you will never understand how awesome and unusual it is, Hiking in the dark of February through the forest to a barn or farm house that is filled with people aged from 2 years up to 70 –dancing to DJ’s and live music, spinning fire, chilling, sharing, laughing, crying and playing until the sun comes up. Salt Spring shares more, dances more, and attracts the freest. There are a couple locals, but the rest of us are like everyone else – transplants. You can count the publically traded companies on one hand, as nearly everyone is a passionate small business owner. This amazing selection of small businesses provides essentially everything you need day-to-day. We also can’t forget the abundance of nature – we are epically beautiful and full of wildlife.
If you had a magic Salt Spring wand, what island thing would you change?
One, I’d eliminate the scarcity mentality. I’d wave the wand and everyone would see that we have more than we ever need and that we are always taken care of. The wand would also show us that coming together and sharing is more important the protecting what we have built. We would see abundance in everything we experienced. I’d also change that fact that there are beautiful historic buildings sitting in Vesuvius and Fulford that are going to be demolished because of onerous big city rules.
Which well known person, living or dead, do you think would be a good addition to the island?
Bob Marley – jammin’ in Centennial Park, spreading the love. I can’t even imagine what he would attract.
Is there a special project, business or initiative you are working on that islanders should know about?
The Salt Spring Island Wellness Centre, located between Café Talia and the Dry Cleaner on Hereford. We currently have a premier members-only fitness studio and a Yoga Studio. Stay tuned as there is much more to come, including a community acupuncture clinic opening in April 2015.
I never thought coming to Salt Spring that this is what would consume much of my time, but of all the possible businesses to ‘inherit’ through bankruptcy proceedings, a fitness center is among the most inspiring. The previously vacant 3000 square feet has been carefully planned and renovated. A challenging, but rewarding task, we have turned the corner and by the spring of 2015 the Wellness Centre will be 100% occupied.
While it is still unfolding, my vision is to have the Centre as a hub of Wellness for everyone on Salt Spring Island. This is the destination of so many to pursue their own wellness. I want the Wellness Centre to be that portal by which clients enter and pass through to the long list of other island wide wellness based business, events and practitioners. My website is being built with this in mind and includes a community directory of all health and wellness practitioners. But the Wellness Centre and its offerings are focused on those who live here. Our gym does not offer drop-ins except with a member and our yoga and studio schedule is for the island to call home, both as teachers and students.
Is there a really good interview question we should have asked you?
What has surprised you the most about Salt Spring Island?
How would you have answered your question?
I thought the pace would be slower here, but in the summer the pace is actually more intense than the city. It surprised me how hard everyone works to balance work, family and all else – myself included.
January 30 @ GYS, 6-7:30pm. $20 drop-in.
Yoga and live music is a way to experience yoga and sound — in harmony, creating a musical form of yoga. The musician is performing yoga through sound, which creates an opportunity for us yogis to hear the energy that the group has created. Sometimes we can feel this combined energy flow when we are all breathing and stretching together simultaneously, and now we have the opportunity to hear it as well. Please join us for a musical journey with Craig Paterson, while Lesley Mensink leads us through a soft trance-like yoga flow.
All levels welcome.
